Take a stand...

"You shall not follow the masses in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after a multitude in order to pervert justice."--Exodus 23:2.  This is one among many of the various laws given to the Israelite people after the Ten Commandments were given.  This one grabbed my attention because this is telling Israel to take a stand even when the masses are following the crowd.

Take a stand.  Ever been caught in a situation where it seems you are going one direction but everyone else is going another?  It is in these times when the easiest choice is to go with the crowd.  With this July 4th holiday upon us, we are celebrating the fact that our founding fathers chose to take a stand even when they were standing alone.  They took a stand and this is why we have the freedom that we do today.

Take a stand.  But what about in our Christianity? Are we willing to take a stand and defend God's word and the truths we find in it come under attack? Or are we going to follow the masses who do evil and pervert justice?

Take a stand.  This passage in Exodus, tells us not to follow the masses in doing evil.  I want to first fast forward from this point to the time of Christ and Barabbas depicted in Matthew 27:22, Mark 15:13, Luke 23:21, and John 19:6 where the crowds shouted "Crucify Him!" This is also depicted below. Watch the clip below from the movie The Passion of the Christ.  Ask yourself would you be among the masses shouting "Crucify Him!" or would you be among the few, if not the only one remaining silent as the masses do evil and justice is perverted as stated here in Exodus 23:2?

Before you answer whether or not you would be among the masses or the few, take some time and think of how easy it is to follow the crowd and how difficult it is to stand up for something even when you are standing alone as the image suggests at the beginning of this blog.

So my encouragement to you is this, if you find yourself in a position where you need to defend what the Scripture says, do not be afraid to do so even when you are the only one taking that stand on God's Word.  Do not be afraid to take a stand when God's Word comes under attack. I found myself having to do this just the other night and realized I was the only one defending God's Word while others were distorting the truth found therein. It is a scary situation to be sure but we can also be sure that the Lord is on our side and if the Lord is with us, who can be against us?

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PRAY ABOUT IT! HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE! LOVE Y'ALL! GOD BLESS!
