Keeping your word...

"If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth."--Numbers 30:2.  In this section of the book of Numbers, we find a whole chapter devoted to a fairly simple concept, keeping your word.

Keeping your word.  As you read through the chapter you find what this law entails.  Essentially the only condition for a person breaking their word in this chapter is if the spouse, specifically the husband, tells his wife to annul the vow. Otherwise the person is expected to keep their word.

Keeping your word.  In the New Testament, specifically within the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5-7 and in Matthew 5:34-37, Jesus tells us let our statements be 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no' and that anything beyond that is of evil.

Keeping your word.  Again, this is a fairly simple concept that none of us would disagree with but we need to ask ourselves are we putting this into practice?  Or more importantly why should we put keeping our word into practice?

Keeping your word.  This may be a simple concept but it is a crucial concept to keep at the forefront of our minds.  I don't know how many times my own failure to follow through with something I have said I would do has caused problems for me.

Keeping your word.  Failure to keep one's word can lead to a break down in communication and sometimes it can lead to the relationship with that person breaking down. Not to mention the fact that failure to keep your word can also destroy your credibility and your ability to be trusted.

Keeping your word.  This is a pretty straightforward concept.  So no practical application except for the one already stated, KEEP YOUR WORD! If you say you are going to do something, do it.  So I leave you with the words of our Lord, "Let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no'; anything beyond these is of evil." (Matthew 5:37).

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PRAY ABOUT IT! LOVE Y'ALL! GOD BLESS!
