Protection...

"So the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today."--Deuteronomy 6:24.  Here Moses says shows us quite plainly why we should obey God's commands and that is simply for our good ALWAYS and for our survival. They are there for our protection.

Protection.  Here Moses seems to get down to the nitty gritty of God's commands.  He doesn't only tell them they need to obey these commands, he actually tells them why they should.  The commands are there for their own protection.

Protection.  The image below should be a familiar one.  A child getting ready to put his hand on a hot stove despite the fact that he was told not to.  Is this simple instruction meant to keep the child from something good? Of course not, this simple instruction is meant simply to protect the child.

Protection.  Well society today is a lot like that child that touches the hot stove even when they are instructed not to when it comes to God's commands.  When people are faced with the concept of submitting to God and following the commands found in His Word, they are turned off to this idea.  This is simply because they think they are being placed under some kind of restriction and being kept from something good.  This is simply not the case.  God's commands are there for our good and for our survival per Deuteronomy 6:24.  This concept of God's commands being for our protection is also seen in the New Testament.

Protection.  Yesterday during our chapel time here at the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, one of my instructors, Bob Turner spoke on 1 Timothy 4:7-9.  One of the statements in this passage is that godliness holds promise not only for the next life but also for the present life.  Do you realize what this means?  This means that following God's commands actually make our lives here on earth better.  Can we honestly say that when we boil it all down that life gets worse if we submit to God?  I am not saying it is easy because following God's commands can be difficult at times but the reality is you can never go wrong with following God's commands.  They are there for our protection.

Protection.  Allow me for a moment to draw a contrast.  Take a moment and look at the world we are living in.  The main reason society is heading down the road that it is is, when all else is removed, is quite simply because it has gotten further and further away from what God has commanded.  This same pattern is seen throughout the pages of Scripture.  Society deteriorates when control is taken from God and given to man.  There is no way around that. As one instructor of mine would say, this is "ungetaroundable." The fact is God's commands are there for our protection.

Protection.  God's commands.  They are not always easy to follow but despite this, following God's commands are there for our protection.  There is simply no room to say following God's commands can harm us in the long run.  God's commands are ultimately there to protect us from spending eternity in hell.  This protection begins simply boy obeying three little commands, believe that Jesus is who He claims to be, repent and come to an obedience of the gospel as described in Romans 6:3-4.

Protection.  So my encouragement to you is this.  Simply take this message into consideration and remind others that God's commands are there to protect us from eventual harm, in this life and the next.

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PRAY ABOUT IT! LOVE Y'ALL! GOD BLESS!
