What is right and good.

"You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord..."--Deuteronomy 6:18.  Moses, upon reminding the people that they ought to be diligent to keep God's commands, he also instructs them to do what is right and good.

What is right and good.  According to the definition of the Hebrew words used for right and good, the word right means simply what is right in God's eyes and the word good means that which is morally good.  Keep these definitions in mind.

What is right and good.  The concept of what is right and good should be a pretty basic enough concept for us to understand.  However, understanding what is right and good does not come easily to a lot of Christians.

What is right and good.  So then what of this concept of what is right and good?

What is right and good.  Well, as I said keep the definitions I gave above in mind.  Something we should all keep in mind when we are thinking about doing or even saying something, we should ask ourselves two basic questions, is this right in God's eyes and/or is this something that is morally good?

What is right and good.  There is an aspect of our Christian "culture" that I have recently begun to re-examine and it is an issue that is close to my heart.  The issue is how we tend to joke around with one another. What does this have to do with what is right and good?

What is right and good.  Well something I don't think we can't ignore is that most of the time that a joke is made, said joke comes at someone else's expense.  Please don't get me wrong here, I am all for a good laugh but I have begun to ask myself is it right and good for said joke to come at someone else's expense?

What is right and good.  I don't pretend to be above this because I have been guilty of doing this same thing and it is something I am struggling to overcome and get better at.  But maybe something we should ask ourselves if joking at someone else's expense is something that is right and good.

What is right and good.  This is just one example that I chose to use since its something I can apply to myself as well.  But there are countless other examples.  The point I am trying to make is that many obey the gospel without realizing we must re-evaluate our lifestyle and make some changes.  This of course is the concept of repentance.

What is right and good.  So my encouragement to you is this.  Take some time to re-evaluate your walk with God.  Are there some things God would not be pleased with? Maybe it's an attitude or maybe its a lifestyle you are dabbling in.  Or maybe it is going a little overboard on joking at someone else's expense.  Whatever the case, write down the two basic questions and post them somewhere they are always visible.  Again they are "Is this right in God's eyes?" and "Is this something that is morally good?"  Keeping these in mind will allow us to become better Christians and create better relationships with one another.

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PRAY ABOUT IT! LOVE Y'ALL! GOD BLESS!
