Quality Time with Christ

"...He was explaining everything privately to His disciples."--Mark 4:34.  I cannot imagine how awesome it must have been for the apostles to follow Christ for the entire 3 years of His ministry.  If anybody knew Christ inside and out, it was those 12 men who are the founders of the church.  Given the fact that they spent all 3 years of Jesus' ministry with Him, I think what we read in the pages of Scripture is just a small glimpse into everything the apostles witnessed Jesus do and heard Him say.  They had a privilege that the rest of us don't.  Or do we???

He was explaining everything privately to His disciples.  This is probably one of the first "small groups" that was ever held in church history.  Jesus had some one on one time with the apostles.  After a long day of teaching thousands, Jesus still made time to have some quality time with the 12 men He hand picked to carry out His message after He would leave this world.

So my question to you tonight is when is the last time you had some quality time with Christ?  This concept of quality time should be pretty familiar to all of us.  Quality time is that time you spend with your friends or family "just because."  There is no special occasion or obligation to force us to spend time with that person.  We just want to spend time with them because we enjoy their company.  I imagine Christ felt this way about His apostles.  They heard everything He taught to the multitudes.  They heard His lessons.  But Jesus still wanted to teach them probably the most intimate of lessons anyone could ever hear.  What's even more awesome is that I imagine He feels this way about us.  Jesus wants to spend quality time with us "just because."  Twice on Sunday, once on Wednesday. :Let's face it, that's obligation.  Yes we might enjoy and look forward to Sunday's and Wednesday's when we can gather with the brethren but we do so out of habit and/or obligation as well.  But I ask again, when is the last time you spent time with Christ "just because"?  Part of this reason I started posting these devo's was because I needed to take some time out to have some quality time with Christ at the beginning and end of my day.  Yet I still need improvement in this area of spending quality time with Christ.  It is amazing though the stuff you can learn just by spending some extra time in the Scriptures outside of Sunday Morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night worship and Bible Study. We do have the opportunity to spend time with Christ the way the apostles did. Let's make it happen. So my encouragement to all of us tonight and over the next week is that we all take some time out of our otherwise busy schedules EVERY DAY and spend some quality time with Christ, whether it's in Bible Study or in prayer or BOTH!  Let's all do this.  Why? Well we learn more on our own but let's do it "Just Because".:-). PRAY ABOUT IT! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! LOVE Y'ALL GOD BLESS!
