True Honor...

"The fear of the LORD is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor comes humility."--Proverbs 15:33.  A proverb contrasting those who are considered righteous versus those who are not.

It all begins with the fear of the Lord.  This is where we must begin if we are to gain wisdom. The fear of the Lord involves a reverence for the Lord.  We discussed in one of my classes today that it also involves how seriously we must take the power God has.

After we fear the Lord, we receive the instruction for wisdom.  This is also where humility comes in.  Fearing the Lord involves being willing to humble ourselves before Him.  Part of this is opening our minds to His word where true wisdom is found.

At the writing of this devo, I was chatting with a friend of mine and I made the statement to her that we must always be willing to learn, more specifically from His word. Learning involves opening our mind to what the Lord has to teach us through His word.

When we humble ourselves, that's when true honor comes. Our Lord and Savior said whoever wants to be first will be last but he who is last will be first.

We must first fear the Lord, then we will receive wisdom from Him.  Learning from Him involves being humble and opening our minds to what He has to teach us.

It is then and only then that we will receive true honor. Not from men but from God.
