Our older brother...

"He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted"--Hebrews 2:18

"For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren."--Hebrews 2:11. The Hebrew writer describing how Jesus is not only our Savior but also our brother.

Our older brother.  Jesus is our older brother because while He is God, in the flesh He is one of us.

Our older brother.  Jesus is our older brother because He dealt with the same temptations we face everyday yet He was without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

Our older brother.  Jesus is our older brother because He was born both of man and of God making Him 100% man yet 100% God.

Our older brother.  Jesus is our older brother because like any brother should He comes to our rescue when we are tempted (Hebrews 2:18).

Our older brother.  Jesus is our older brother because we are of one Father.

Our older brother.  Jesus is our older brother because God has given us to Him as children (Hebrews 2:13)

Our older brother.  Not everyone has a good relationship with their earthly older brother but among other things, Jesus is the ideal older brother that any one person could have.  He died for us on the cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins if we repent and are baptized (Acts 2:36-38).

Our older brother.  The original passage says that Jesus is not ashamed to call us brethren.  How is your relationship with Jesus? Are we ashamed to call Him our older brother? Are we so ashamed to call Him our older brother that we refuse to respond to the gospel message?

Take time this week to simply reflect on your relationship with Christ and try to come up with some other ways that Jesus while He is the Savior of our sins, He is also our older brother.
